Bengals better off with Palmer watching

GEORGETOWN, Ken. - For better or worse, and there are plenty of cynical and long-suffering Cincinnati Bengals fans who would suggest the latter is the case, first-year head coach Marvin Lewis has decided that Jon Kitna is his starting quarterback.
It doesn't matter if Carson Palmer, the Heisman Trophy winner and former Southern California star who was the top overall pick in the 2003 draft, never has a pass hit the ground for all of training camp and preseason. Should journeyman Shane Matthews be suddenly transformed from backup to brilliant, his arm strength miraculously improved over the first mostly forgettable nine years of his career, Lewis won't blink or backtrack.
