Titans hoping middle LB will emerge

Every year the Titans struggle with the salary cap. This year they were forced to release middle linebacker Randall Godfrey in order to re-sign backup quarterback Neil O'Donnell and veteran punter Craig Hentrich. Four players will attempt to fill Godfrey's spot, one of the more competitive position battles in camp. While teams around the league were in a mad scramble for defensive tackles, resulting in a run at the position in the first round of the draft, the Titans lost two of them in free agency and may have to get creative to have the necessary depth at the position. But the big push is to find a consistent second receiver to play opposite Derrick Mason at wide receiver. Mason struggled with the constant double coverage last year, and Steve McNair could sure use another target so that he doesn't have to constantly buy time with his feet.
