Nashville Predators: Nashville not only added an enforcer by signing New Jersey's Jim McKenzie to a two-year, $1.35 million contract Tuesday. The Predators added a champion and a well-rounded player who can contribute in other ways besides fisticuffs.

Atlanta Thrashers: Don't call Byron Dafoe a rolly-polly goalie. The Thrashers netminder has taken part in a rigorous workout program with some teammates and has cut his body fat from 14 percent to 9 percent. Dafoe also hopes to have a season without any groin problems for a change.

Minnesota Wild: Minnesota might yet dip into the free agent market, but GM Doug Risebrough won't be disappointed if he doesn't add any new faces through that route. The Wild will stick with their approach to develop within their system, but their sudden success last season should be more appealing to unsigned players looking for work.
