Tigers add new type of loss to repertoire

One of the interesting things about the 2003 season is
that the team with the best record in baseball has
suffered beatings far worse than the team with the
worst record. The Atlanta Braves are currently 38½
games better than the Detroit Tigers but have had to
absorb beatings far more humiliating than the Tigers
have. Three times this year have they been on the
receiving end of right good thrashings, the combined
scores of which are 53-4.
April 5: Lost 17-1 to Florida
April 9: Lost 16-2 to Philadelphia
July 1: Lost 20-1 to Florida Prior to Sunday, the Tigers three biggest losses had almost seemed genteel by comparison:
