Midnight ET Tuesday is a deadline that will have a significant impact on opening night rosters in the NHL this season.

Group II free agents (restricted) must decide whether to seek salary arbitration or continue negotiating.

For players who don't choose arbitration, they risk extending contract disputes through training camp or into the season. With little leverage because other teams rarely offer contracts that can be matched by the team owning a player's rights, Group II free agents risk losing a portion of their salary for lost time and weakening their team at the start of the season.
