Chicago White Sox: For a little while there, it appeared that Sox manager Jerry Manuel had beaten the firing rumor rap. Now that the Sox have drooped again, the rumor mill is back on a three-shift day writes Doug Padilla of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Cleveland Indians: I will be the first to admit that I touted Brandon Phillips as the answer for the Indians at second base. While he may yet still be that answer, it will not be for the time being. Dennis Manoloff examines his demotion to Buffalo in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer. Even with the ability to be patient due to rebuilding mode, the Indians felt they could not watch Phillips flail at big league pitching any longer.
