Armageddon might be coming a little sooner than expected to the NHL.

Instead of the disaster widely predicted for next summer, when players and owners are expected to shut down the league in a labor dispute, the end was signaled last week by a new philosophy adopted by one of the league's marquee teams.

The Detroit Red Wings are shifting to a more defensive style of hockey in their pursuit of a fourth Stanley Cup in eight years.
