Denver Broncos: TE Dwayne Carswell was jailed in Atlanta on $2,500 bail on suspicion of attacking his girlfriend outside a nightclub, according to the Denver Post. He was arrested Friday and charged with simple battery, domestic violence and obstruction of an officer, said Sgt. Nikita Hightower, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County Sheriff's Department. A court complaint said Carswell (6' 3", 260) picked up Nkeiruka Anyamone, 25, by the neck outside a bar early Friday. The complaint also said the woman was bitten on the right arm and later treated by medical personnel. Carswell has been accused of assaulting at least two other women in the last several years.

Dallas Cowboys: The team expects second-round draft pick S Terrence Kiel to be ready for training camp July 23, despite being shot in the abdomen and leg Friday afternoon, apparently in an attempted carjacking. "From what we understand he's going to be fine in a couple of weeks," GM A.J. Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune after speaking with Kiel and doctors in Houston. Kiel was released from the hospital Sunday, but still has a bullet in his belly. The Chargers plan to bring Kiel to San Diego this week for evaluation by their medical personnel.

San Francisco 49ers: With starting CB Jason Webster still recovering from ankle surgery and second-year CB Mike Rumph failing to turn heads at the team's minicamps, there are definite concerns in the secondary. But the June signing of CB Fred Weary has allayed some of those concerns. In his short time as a Niner, Weary has impressed the coaching staff. "The first thing that sticks out is his experience, obviously. Then, his knowledge of the game is tremendous," Al Simmons, San Francisco's assistant secondary coach, told the Gainesville Sun. "The guy is very intelligent, that was obvious to us as soon as we worked him out. He knows what to do out there, and we think he can produce for us in whatever role he eventually lands." Weary had his best season in 2000, with 66 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, 14 passes defensed and one forced fumble despite missing the final four games with a torn ACL.
