American League
Boston Red Sox: Tim Wakefield got the win last night but had to leave the game with a lower back strain and is listed as day to day. Joe McDonald of the Providence Journal gives the details.

Detroit Tigers: They take paradise and put up a parking lot. Or, in this case, perhaps a Wal-Mart. Joni Mitchell was not singing about ballparks in her song "Big Yellow Taxi," but it's applicable to the Tiger Stadium situation. The venerable old joint is slated for demolition and Detroit's mayor would like to see a discount retail center put in its place. As Terry Foster of the Detroit News writes, what else can be done, really? The place is doomed because it no longer serves a function. One thing that would be nice is to save some of the fašade and build the giant retailer inside the shell. Sound crazy? There are some very talented architects out there who could pull off a job like that in their sleep.
