Minnesota Timberwolves: Andy Miller, the agent for the highest paid player in
the NBA, met with Kevin McHale, general manager for the highest paid
player in the NBA, and, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, they
didn't even talk about the highest paid player in the NBA."We just
talked generally about the draft, trade ideas they have and things
they want to do this summer," Miller said. "I haven't even spoken to
Kevin [Garnett] about his contract, so there was nothing to talk to
[McHale] about yet. We'll see what transpires early in the summer
before we even engage Minnesota in talks." Garnett has been the
subject of several trade rumors to which both parties have denied and
is eligible to sign a contract extension before July 2004 when he
would become a free agent. The last discussion the two parties had
revolved around a four-year, $80M deal.
San Antonio Spurs: New York Post writer Peter Vecsey walked up to Tim Duncan and
told him the Spurs were rumored to be exchanging Tony Parker to
the Nets for Jason Kidd in a sign and trade to which the two-time MVP
replied: "That's pretty funny. You had me going there for a second.
Hey, I don't want to lose my man, Tony." Vecsey piece went on to say
that Duncan wants a center rather than another power forward or new
point guard and that he would definitely have input on the free agent
decision. "There's Jermaine O'Neal and Brad Miller. P.J. Brown is also
out there. He'd be a nice fit, too," answered Duncan in the Post, also
commenting on Elton Brand.
Los Angeles Lakers: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Kobe Bryant will have
surgery to repair his right shoulder within the next two weeks after
doctors assured him that rehab would be complete by the time training
camp opened for the next season. However, the operation will prevent
him from participating in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament this
summer.
