Milwaukee Bucks: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Michael Jordan may be putting together small group of investors to eventually
purchase the franchise from Senator Herb Kohl. The paper quotes
no direct sources but claims that Jordan is looking for partners to
pony up about $50 million each to reach the $170 million asking price. A
stumbling for other suitors has been the fact that Kohl will only sell
to a group committed to keeping the franchise in Milwaukee, which
doesn't pose a problem to Jordan, who still maintains his primary
residence in nearby Chicago.
Chicago Bulls: Chicago Sun Times columnist Jay Mariotti writes that if Michael Jordan lands anywhere but Chicago it is nothing short of a travesty and
that there is no one to blame but owner Jerry Reisndorf and GM John Paxson. "I
would always leave the door open for Michael in some form or fashion.
I'd be foolish to say I'd never want him around," said Paxson in the
piece. "I spoke to Michael briefly, and I know he's going to pursue
some opportunities that are very good for him. He should pursue those
things. If he should find himself in September or October with nothing
in place, I'd love to have him. I respect Michael a lot, and I never
would infringe on his time or press him on things."
Los Angeles Lakers: Who needs a power forward when the Los Angeles Times is running a story about the Lakers going after point guard Gary Payton.
The paper says the team may pass on higher-priced forwards such as P.J.
Brown and Juwan Howard in order to use its mid-level exception on
Payton and then go after lower-priced forwards like Derrick Coleman or
Tyrone Hill. Of course, that assumes Payton is willing to take a
multi-million dollar paycut in the first place. If he isn't, former
Laker Tyronn Lue has expressed interest in returning to team after
brief stint with the Washington Wizards.
