New Jersey Devils: Melanie Brodeur's timing couldn't be worse as far as the Devils are concerned. Just when Devils goalie Martin Brodeur had seemingly quieted the media from trying to get more information on his personal life, his estranged wife has filed for divorce in Essex County Family Court seeking custody of their four children, financial support for them and a distribution of property owned by the couple.
Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings have offered Sergei Fedorov a contract that's less than the five-year, $50 million deal they proposed at midseason to the star center, who can be an unrestricted free agent July 1. Detroit's latest proposal is for $40 million over four years, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Darren McCarty has been a vital member of the Red Wings' three Stanley Cups over the past seven years, but that might not be enough to keep the tough forward with Detroit. The team is apparently reluctant to offer the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent much of a raise above the $1.95 million he made last season.
