Rays may sign Lugo to fill in for Ordonez

Carter Gattis of the Tampa Tribune is reporting that
Rey Ordoñez's sprained left knee is going to keep him
out of the lineup for perhaps another month. His
manager, Lou Piniella, gave this accounting of the
time frame for his return: ``It's doubtful that he'll
be ready when his time comes to come off the DL. In
other words, we don't think he'll be ready in two
weeks. A month, tops -- probably in the three-week
range.''
Ordoñez's injury comes in the midst of one of the most
productive periods in his career. He has already
matched his career-high in home runs (3) and was on
pace to shatter his highs in hits, doubles and runs
batted in. His batting average (.316) is 68 points
over his career number and his slugging average (.487)
is off the charts in the context of his career mark of
.336.
Before we get carried away with what he's done so far,
it should be pointed out that he's only drawn two
walks in 124 plate appearances, a sure sign that he
has not matured in terms of selectivity. An even surer
sign is that the number of pitches he is seeing per
plate appearance is not improving. In fact, he's doing
anything but improving:
