He certainly wasn't counting on increased offense, but New Jersey head coach Pat Burns deserves credit for smartly inserting Tommy Albelin and Richard Smehlik into the lineup for the Devils' 4-1 victory over Ottawa on Tuesday night.

Substituting Albelin, who scored the first goal of the game, and Smehlik for defensemen Oleg Tverdovsky and Ken Daneyko helped the Devils even their best-of-7 series at a game apiece as the teams head to East Rutherford, N.J., for Games 3 (Thursday) and 4 (Saturday).

"I liked it. It was a decision we had to make," Burns told reporters after the game. "I don't think it was the decision of the game or the decision of the century. It was not a punishment. Nobody's blaming anything on those two. Sometimes you have to make a change."
