Sammy Knight is close to making his new fall residence Miami, as he's on the verge of agreeing to a contract with the Dolphins. And no one is happier about the impending transaction than head coach Dave Wannstedt.

''We want him here,'' Wannstedt told the Miami Herald. ``There's not a harder-hitting safety in the NFL. He does things you can't coach. He's serious about what he does.''

Knight will mark the fourth major free-agent acquisition for the Dolphins defense. Miami is showing a sense of urgency, realizing that their Super Bowl window won't stay open forever, and have already brought in linebacker Junior Seau, cornerback Terrell Buckley and defensive lineman Jeff Zgonina to bolster a defense that was the strength of the team.
