Every year, some teams either fail to address their major needs via the
draft, or they address those needs by greatly reaching for picks. This
draft was no different, and here are a list of a few teams that made curious
decisions over the weekend&
The Green Bay Packers went into the draft knowing that Brett Favre is
talking about retirement with more frequency, and targeted a quarterback
that they could groom as their quarterback for the future. Instead, they
stood pat with their current collection of backups that include Craig Nall,
Doug Pederson and recently acquired Eric Crouch.
The Packers had their eye on Florida quarterback Rex Grossman, but the
division rival Chicago Bears took him seven slots before Green Bay was on
the clock. There were still many signal-callers available in what was
thought to be a very deep draft, but apparently the Miker Sherman was
content with Craig Nall as Favre's understudy. That move could backfire on
them, because even though they're expected to struggle whenever Favre hangs
them up, they could sustain the blow much better if they had a starting
caliber quarterback ready in the wings.
