Calgary castoffs flourish in playoffs

Calgary hasn't made the playoffs in seven years, but a few players not good enough for the Flames are starring in the 2003 postseason tournament.

You win some and you lose some in player evaluation, but seeing Anaheim's Jean-Sebastien Giguere turn back the defending Stanley Cup champs in a four-game sweep and Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis dash around the ice while scoring three game-winning goals in the Lightning's elimination of Washington must be frustrating to Flames fans.

"I can't say many bad things about the Flames because they gave me an opportunity to play in the NHL," St. Louis, who signed with the Flames after starring in college with Vermont, said during an NHL conference call Tuesday. "With Jean-Sebastien doing so well and me doing so well, yeah, when you look back, you can say they were bad moves but at the time, they might have [looked like] good moves."
