Terrell Suggs dazzled scouts throughout a phenomenal junior season that saw
him shatter the single season mark for sacks with 24. But he failed to
dazzle anyone at his Pro Day in Arizona on March 26. Suggs ran a pedestrian
4.8 in the 40, and disappointed some of the personnel people
who came to see him. But Suggs will get a second chance to wow teams today,
when he'll work out once more in an attempt to solidify his spot as the
premier defensive lineman in the draft.
Since Suggs is a speed rusher, a good time for Suggs to run would be
somewhere around 4.6.
Teams are concerned with his slow time because he doesn't possess the size
(6'3", 257) or the strength to challenge offensive tackles, and he relies on
speed as his main weapon.
Part of his problem ironically revolves around Dwight Freeney, whose sack
record was broken by Suggs. Last year Freeney shocked the world by running
a 4.38 in a workout and skyrocketed up the draft board. The Indianapolis
Colts snatched him at No. 11 and he responded with 13 sacks.
