Newsday refers to Roger Cedeno as "underachieving"
but, now that he is 29, we must consider that what we
are seeing from the Mets outfielder is not
underachievement, but rather the state of his art.
In 1999, Cedeno did some nice things for a player of
his sort. He got on base a lot and stole everything
that wasn't protected by LoJack. Since then, there has
been nothing but drop-off as he has watched his
numbers tumble right on through his prime playing
years. His On Base Percentage has fallen in each of
the last three years and is especially low in the
early going of 2003:
1999: .396 2000: .383 2001: .337 2002: .318 2003: .208
