Trufant takes center stage

MOBILE, Ala. -- Wednesday was the first time I got to see both the North and South squads go through their Senior Bowl practices and it was really enlightening. The overall talent level this year is certainly comparable to recent years. But as always, a couple of players really rose to the occasion and posted the kind of performances that start them shooting up the draft boards.

Washington State DB Marcus Trufant was one of those players. I had him on my top 25 senior board this year, so he was not a total surprise, but Trufant really played well today. To me, he has been one of the best players in Mobile -- on either side of the ball. A couple of Pac-10 QBs also have stood out. USC's Carson Palmer continued his strong play, while Cal's Kyle Boller had an excellent practice.
