Jackson could rank among nation's top defensive ends

LOS ANGELES, May 26 -- The L.A. area is so spread out that I always have to make several stops to see all the elite players. Likewise, there are so many blue-chip prospects in Southern California that I'll divide my report into two installments.

One of the state's top players -- and also one of the nation's top DE prospects -- is Lawrence Jackson (6-5, 245) of Inglewood. A definite five-star recruit, he's already been offered by Miami (Fla.), Tennessee, Oregon, Colorado and USC. He looks skinny at 245 and could end up weighing 280 in a couple of years, in which case he could move to DT. I was really surprised at how good he is.

Another surprise was WR B.J. Vickers (6-3, 205, 4.5) of Venice, who already has offers from 26 schools, including USC, Colorado and all the West Coast schools.
