Jay Rood, the bookmaker at the Mirage in Las Vegas, made a good point to me on Wednesday afternoon.
We were chatting about some of this week's biggest line moves in college football and I asked him about University of Wisconsin-Michigan State University. This number had been moving all over the place between Wisconsin minus-1 and 2.5. When I asked Jay, who opened the game at minus-1, about the moves he said, "The first play we took was from a pro and that is why we moved it so quickly. I think it's because of Wisconsin's depth."
Being as sensitive and thoughtful as I am, I wondered out loud if Jay thought it had something to do with the return of Spartans coach Mark Dantonio for the first time since suffering a heart attack two weeks ago after beating Notre Dame. "I don't know about that. Honestly, 10 percent of coaches have probably had mild heart attacks and had no idea. Same is true for bookmakers. Every single week."
He's right. With that said, here's a look at some games that might have Rood reaching for the aspirin on Saturday.
