Carroll: Favre, Eagles try to recover

Why is it important to note when injuries come in bunches? Go ahead and look at your program for the names of your team's trainers and doctors. Not that many, right? In weeks when teams are overwhelmed and their medical staff is stretched thin reacting to a rash of injuries, the reacting can get in the way of the acting and the preventative procedures. There's a decided tendency for things to snowball, especially when players further down the depth chart are exposed to NFL play for the first time. Part of the reason many backups are on the bench is an inability to stay healthy, to take (or give) the hits the NFL is famous for. It's something worth noting as we pass the quarter pole of the season.

There's plenty here to note, so let's get to it:

It will take more than a stinger to end Brett Favre's consecutive-games streak, but that stinger seems to be limiting him. Favre has been sharing snaps with No. 2 Aaron Rodgers, giving some indication that while Favre will play, there might be a quick hook. The supporting cast around Favre might make it tougher. Both Donald Driver and Robert Ferguson are injured, reducing the potential targets for Favre when he's in the game. Driver is practicing, though he was held out of contact to protect his sore ribs. Ferguson is out with the foot injury, meaning Greg Jennings will be an even better fantasy play this week. Ahman Green looks to be out again, though it's safer to say "GTD" -- the dreaded game-time decision. Green's hamstring has kept him from practice and has people wondering if Vernand Morency can punch it in the end zone this week.
