Engel: Peterson, Carr and other backups

In the final rounds of your draft, you always are searching for a valuable reserve, either a sleeper candidate or someone who can be "handcuffed" to a starter. Many of the best late-round picks begin the season as backups, but are later pressed into action because of injuries or shaky play by a starter. Here's an early look at players clearly behind someone else on their team's depth chart, yet they could draw considerable fantasy attention if needed to work more at one of the three major skill positions. Players who are expected to share playing time are not included.

Adrian Peterson, Chicago: If Cedric Benson gets injured or fails to take advantage of his opportunity as starter, Peterson will be needed to play an expanded role. Peterson has started only one game in his career and while he wouldn't be an explosive runner, he does have quickness and good vision, He would be adequate, but not outstanding in an increased role.
