Rich (Richmond): How early would you recommend taking a top kicker like Adam Vinateri? Who else is worth taking a look at? When is it too soon to pull the trigger on drafting any?
Scott Engel: (10:03 AM ET ) Kickers vary too much in performance from year to year and even the best don't outperform the rest by a great stretch. I would never take a kicker in the first 12 rounds, personally. I have always been able to land a good one in the final round or two. Someone will inevitably take Vinatieri too early, say in the ninth round, and that's a mistake when there are still a lot of good position players available. You don't need an elite kicker to contend, so let someone else grab Vinatieri too early and take a Jeff Reed or Josh Brown a few rounds later.
