One of my favorite NFL sayings of all time is a little known quote from Tony Dungy. Dungy said that "85 percent of NFL games are lost rather than won." There are many ways to interpret that, but from a fantasy football perspective, I think it means one thing: target bad cornerbacks.
Every year some of the best fantasy point performances come when a mediocre cornerback is targeted and beaten by a good wide receiver. The best 2006 example is when Chad Johnson faced Fred Thomas of the Saints and posted a 6 catch/190 yard/3 TD game. Johnson is one of the best receivers in the league but the reason he had the point explosion was that he was facing Thomas, one of the worst cover cornerbacks in the league.
The key to exploiting this type of thing is to know the worst starting cornerbacks in the NFL. I have been breaking down every passing play of every NFL game for four years now and have maintained a database on each cornerback, so I know who are the worst ones.
