Fantasy owners certainly could not have been faulted for benching Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells in Week 12. Wells has clearly been hampered by a knee injury over the past month or more, practicing sparingly and struggling his way to a grand total of 10 fantasy points over three games. In Week 9 against the same St. Louis Rams defense he shredded Sunday, he rushed 10 times for 20 yards. In Week 11, Wells produced one fantasy point. And let's face it, Wells hasn't been the most durable fellow since entering the NFL out of Ohio State in 2009, often tempting but also frustrating fantasy owners.

Of course, on Sunday Wells likely changed many a fantasy owner's opinion of him by exploding for a franchise-record 228 rushing yards on 27 carries, tallying 26 fantasy points in the rematch against the Rams. Listed as questionable to play, Wells was active in 65.3 percent of ESPN standard leagues, 15th among running backs, and he entered the week just 13th in standard running back scoring, despite his tale of two seasons. Through eight weeks, Wells was one of fantasy's most pleasant surprises, with a 31-point fantasy game in Week 4 and six double-digit fantasy performances in seven games. In Weeks 9-11, however, Wells owners could have lost faith, as the production abruptly ended.
