- Brian McKitish, Fantasy Basketball
While most Dwyane Wade owners spent the day fighting off panic attacks, the rest of us fantasy freaks woke up this morning with an excitement that is rarely duplicated in the fantasy world. That's right, folks, the NBA trade deadline is upon us. Unfortunately, the 3:00 ET deadline has come and gone without much flare. After all the excitement, Pau Gasol is still in Memphis, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter are still in New Jersey and Mike Bibby is still stuck in Sac-town. So much for all those internet rumors, huh? Don't be too disappointed, though. There are still plenty of fantasy implications despite the lack of a blockbuster deal.
Fantasy Impact: The Hawks quest for a true point guard continues as they acquire the veteran Anthony Johnson to compete with Speedy Claxton and Tyronn Lue in the now crowded Atlanta backcourt. While this deal isn't a complete admission of Speedy's failure to live up to expectations, it certainly shows the Hawks displeasure with his inconsistent play. Speedy may still have a starting gig, but he should see even less minutes than the 22.8 he's currently seeing in the month of February, making him nearly useless in all but the deepest (and I mean deepest) of formats.
Brian McKitish recaps the trade deadline from a fantasy perspective.
