Uncommon Thievery: Scarcity Watch

Can somebody tell me what in the name of Billy Beane is going on around here? The Oakland A's have eight stolen bases in 10 attempts? This is madness. Well, not really. Moneyball pundits will tell you that attempting a stolen base is worth the risk if you're successful more than 70 percent of the time. Given that the early-season success rate would translate to an unofficial all-time high (see table below), it's only natural for teams to start stealing more bases.
