Rookie Report (June 16)
Prince Fielder, DH, Brewers: He's one of the best power-hitting prospects in baseball, but Fielder unfortunately is stuck behind Lyle Overbay at the major-league level. The Brewers recalled Fielder, the son of former major leaguer Cecil Fielder, to serve as their designated hitter as they play in American League parks this week, but expect him to return to the minors by Monday regardless of how he performs. Prince was hitting .253 with 15 homers and 47 RBI in 64 games for Triple-A Nashville at the time of his promotion, and he's now a .292 hitter with 78 homers and 288 RBI in 409 games as a professional. He'll likely be a left-handed version of his father in his prime, except with a better batting average. Fielder might get a look again after rosters expand on Sept. 1, and he could be the Brewers' starting first baseman next opening day, making him a nice keeper prospect.
