Hellickson making strides at Triple-A
News and notes from Thursday in the minor leagues
Flying under the radar?
Jeremy Hellickson, RHP, Rays (Triple-A Durham)
Thursday's stats: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Often seen as more in the Group B of Rays pitching prospects, Hellickson had a 2.38 ERA in 11 Double-A starts and now has given up just two runs in his first 12 International League innings. Despite being a bit on the small side, he combines above-average stuff with well-above-average command and control. Some scouts even would take him over power righty Wade Davis when talking about the best arms in the system.
Turning it all aroundTravis Snider, OF, Blue Jays (Triple-A Las Vegas)
Thursday's stats: 2-for-3, 2B, 3B, RBI, BB
In many ways, it has been a season to forget for Snider. He began the year in the big leagues, struggled, got sent to Triple-A, then injured his back. Finally healthy, he's back on a roll, going 9-for-19 with two doubles, a triple and two home runs in his past five games and batting .261/.369/.505 (average/on-base percentage/slugging) overall. He's still a major part of Toronto's future.
