Fastball key for Galarraga, Wells strikes fast
Galarraga struggling with fastball
After beginning the year 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA, Tigers starter Armando Galarraga has gone 0-4 with an ERA near 10.00 in his 5 starts in May. Not only has Galarraga recorded more walks than strikeouts this month, but opponents have been mauling his fastball, hitting nearly .450 with four home runs against his heater in those 5 starts. The good news for him is that Thursday he faces an Orioles lineup that is hitting just .276 against fastballs this season (ranked 21st in the majors this season), including a well-hit average of just .235 (the league average is .333 against fastballs). Since Galarraga relies on his fastball so much, look for him to bounce back enough to be in line for a win Thursday.
