Inside the Matchups: Volstad versus Cubs, Scherzer versus Brewers

Cooling Chris Volstad
Chris Volstad visits Wrigley Field Thursday night to take on the Cubs. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 2.70 ERA with about a strikeout an inning. He has an unsustainably low batting average of balls in play so far in 2009 (.207, second lowest in baseball). Only a 2000 edition Pedro Martinez can maintain a balls-in-play average that low. Thursday's meeting with the Cubs will likely be the first bump in the road for the youngster.
