Berkman struggling with lack of power
Astros slugger may still be affected by midsummer calf injury

Where has Lance Berkman's power disappeared to? It's a simple question that unfortunately lacks a simple answer, but Berkman's power has been so AWOL since the All-Star break. He has failed to homer in his 68 at-bats since then, and has not gone yard since July 9. Last year, Berkman had 22 homers in the first half, and just seven in the second. Of course, he was on the disabled list from July 23 to Aug. 12, due to a Grade 2 strain of his calf that he first suffered July 17, so that has been part of it, as he was not necessarily 100 percent when he first returned. However, manager Cecil Cooper told me this weekend that he "doesn't think the injury has anything to do with" the power outage since coming back.
