Random fantasy baseball thoughts picked out of the ether a week before the trade deadline...
• Derek Jeter's a Hall of Famer. But he's underperformed for his fantasy teams this year. According to his average live draft position, Jeter was the 18th player taken overall and the third shortstop, behind Jose Reyes and Miguel Tejada. No doubt, his drafters looked at 2006's output -- .344, 14 HR, 97 RBI, 34 SB -- and dreamed of more sweet multi-category goodness. And yeah, the Yankees shortstop did steal a few bases last week, but as of Monday morning, his numbers read like this: .332, 7 HR, 49 RBI, 11 SB. (That projects to: 11 HR, 82 RBI, 18 SB.) Pretty good, but not close to being worthy of an early second-round selection. Check this out: There's another shortstop in the American League whose current numbers are: 6 HR, 47 RBI, 25 SB. Granted, his average is about 100 points lower. But Julio Lugo is on pace to produce the same power numbers, with far more steals, as Jeter. Weird.
• Phew, lucky the Yankees' problems are over. Thank you, Jose Molina.
