If you are the proud owner of star players like Johan Santana or Chase Utley, congratulations. I hope your team does well. I wish no ill will upon you. But those are two players I would not want on my team.

They say that nobody's irreplaceable, but those two guys are.

The drop-off in talent among the top starting pitchers and second basemen is incredibly steep. If, heaven forbid, Santana or Utley ever were to go down with an injury, the replacement talent available via free agency or trade -- even in shallow mixed leagues -- could never measure up to what was lost. There is nothing you can do -- no roster shuffling, multi-player deal or anything -- that will replace that caliber of player.
