If You're Hardcore: Maybin, Stewart and Buchholz

Are you tired of columns telling you that the smart "pickups" each week are players who already are owned in your league and more often than not sold for real money at auction? If you're hard-core, then this column is for you: real-world pickups for deep AL- or NL-only leagues.
HITTERSIan Stewart, 3B, Rockies: With Todd Helton's back hurting, Stewart will man the hot corner for a few games, while Garret Atkins shifts to first. Formerly considered one of the best hitting prospects in the game, Stewart has seen his stock plummet after two disappointing campaigns. He's rebounded nicely this season, hitting .304 with 15 home runs in his first exposure to Triple-A. Stewart remains a premium prospect, projecting as an All-Star caliber third baseman with outstanding bat speed, plus power to all fields, and acceptable defense. His first stint in the majors will likely be brief, so Stewart's inclusion here is more of a heads-up to keeper leaguers who can grab him early and tuck him away before he comes back for good in September. Those concerned only with 2007 need not bid unless Helton goes on the disabled list.
