If you're hardcore: Butler, Saltalamacchia, Harris
Willie Harris, OF, ATL -- Harris has a career major league OPS of .600, and he's unlikely to hit better than .250 for the Braves, even in limited playing time. It doesn't matter that he's not much of a hitter, though, because Harris is about as fine of a speed source as we're likely to find on the free-agent list at this point in the season. For his career, he's stolen 172 bases in 2,080 minor league at-bats, and 55 bases in 899 major league at-bats. It's doubtful that Harris will hit enough to continue getting starts in the outfield, but he can still play second base, and if he sticks with the Braves as a utilityman he'll earn his fantasy keep. Those in need of speed should pounce on him.
Billy Butler, OF, KC -- Butler is the Royals' future at first base, but he's their present in left field -- at least until Ryan Shealy returns from injury. Until then, the top prospect will play every day, giving him plenty of value in most leagues. Butler really doesn't have anything left to prove in the minors. In just more than 1,200 career at-bats, he's hit .344 with 55 home runs, 94 doubles and 274 RBI. He's got first-rate bat speed, power to all fields, good plate discipline, and he doesn't strike out much. Although he may not be in the bigs to stay, it goes without saying that he should be grabbed in any keeper leagues in which he isn't already part of a farm system. Even in single-year leagues, bid aggressively. If he sticks around, his bat is good enough to put him in contention for rookie of the year honors.
