Are you tired of columns telling you that the smart "pickups" each week are players who are already owned in your league and more often than not sold for real money at auction? If you're hard-core, then this column is for you: real-world pickups for deep AL- or NL-only leagues.
Kurt Suzuki, C, OAK -- The Jason Kendall trade opens the catcher position for 23-year-old rookie Kurt Suzuki. Suzuki's best attribute is his outstanding plate discipline. He'll be a solid major-league regular, probably hitting around .270 with 10-12 home runs per year once he settles in. Suzuki's defense improved dramatically last year, so it will be easier for Oakland to be patient with him. He's worth a substantial bid in both keeper and single-year leagues.
