Any two-bit pundit can predict a Johan Santana Cy Young award or an Albert Pujols MVP. But looking a little deeper, we can make some interesting cases for lesser-appreciated players collecting some major hardware this year. Cy Young Awards

National League: When looking for a pitcher at the right development point and situation to make a great leap forward, the search has to include Anthony Reyes. He took some lumps in his first extended stint in the majors last year, but his base performance indicators held up fairly well (3.71 xERA). His minor league history included ace-worthy peripherals: elite strikeout levels, including a 10.9 K/9 and 6.9 K/BB combo in a half-season at Double-A in 2004. His workload has been handled well. He's well-positioned to join teammate Chris Carpenter as co-ace of the defending champ's rotation.
