Chris, Chicago: I need help on two possible trades. I am in need of steals and am sitting pretty with starting pitchers (Rich Harden, Brandon Webb, John Lackey, Bronson Arroyo and Francisco Liriano) and power hitters (Jim Thome, David Ortiz, Jeff Kent and Carlos Beltran). One offer is Ortiz and Webb for Carl Crawford and Gary Sheffield. The other offer is Harden and Liriano for Ichiro Suzuki. Which is the better trade?

Tristan: I don't think either trade is poor value for you, but I'd go with the latter offer. Trading for players currently on the disabled list can be risky business, and in the first deal, you'd be giving up one of the best power hitters in the game and your best starting pitcher and getting a slugger currently on the DL with a wrist problem, an injury which can often have an impact on a player's numbers initially upon his return. In the second deal, you're giving up the injury prone player and a second player with considerable upside but who isn't entirely proven in exchange for one of the best batting-average performers in the game. Unless you badly need a 50-steal kind of impact instead of, say, 35, go for Ichiro.
