Boy, it didn't take long for the Red Sox to break up the core of their championship squad, one which, in 2004, won its first World Series in 86 years. Boston managed to qualify for the postseason for the third consecutive year in 2005, but fell flat on its face, getting swept in the Division Series by the eventual champion Chicago White Sox. Then began sweeping changes, a process that has yet to run its course with spring training now four weeks away.

Gone are Johnny Damon, the long-haired, table-setting center fielder, and infielders Kevin Millar and Bill Mueller, who brought character to the 2004 team.
