BRIMLEY, Michigan - The remaining field at the Bay
Mills Open Championship will take part in the third round on
Saturday. Michelle Wie is headed back to school.
After an opening round 74, Wie shot a 7-over-par 79 on Friday
and missed the cut by five strokes at the final event of the
season on the Canadian Tour.
The 13-year-old Wie failed to become the first female to make
the cut at a men's professional event in 2003. Annika Sorenstam
missed by four strokes at the Colonial Open and Suzy Whaley
came up 13 strokes short at the Greater Hartford Open.
Wie, who is slated to start ninth grade on Monday, had a rough
second round. She carded eight bogeys - including four straight
beginning at No. 2 - and one birdie.
Wie participated in the event on a Golf Channel exemption.
Play was suspended late in the round Friday with Chris Wall and
Rodney Butcher in the lead at 3-under 141.
