A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

Major League Baseball

Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz have now each had 40-plus home runs and 130-plus RBI in back-to-back seasons. Only one other pair of teammates in major-league history had consecutive 40/130 seasons: Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (1930-31 Yankees).

• When Joe Torre was hired by the Yankees after the 1995 season, he had never won 90 games in any season of his managerial career. With Friday night's victory, Torre's team has reached that number in nine of the last 10 seasons. Torre is only the fourth manager in major-league history to win 90 or more games nine times in a span of 10 seasons. The three others: John McGraw, Casey Stengel and Bobby Cox.
