• Noah Lowry was removed from Monday night's game with two out in the ninth inning and the Giants leading the Phillies 5-0. He became the first major-league starting pitcher in nine years to be taken out of a game with two out in the ninth, while throwing a shutout and enjoying a lead of at least five runs. The Dodgers' Ismael Valdez was replaced under those conditions on July 12, 1996, with Los Angeles leading the Giants 6-0. Scott Radinsky relieved Valdez with a runner on first base and allowed that runner to score. Los Angeles won the game 6-1. • Dontrelle Willis earned a "five-and-fly" victory Monday, pitching only five innings in a 5-2 win against the Dodgers. Willis threw 105 pitches, the second-highest total for his major-league career through the first five innings of a game. He threw 106 pitches through five innings on Aug. 28, 2003 at Pittsburgh.
