Major League Baseball

• The Nationals lost 4-3 at Florida on Friday night. It was their 10th straight defeat in a game decided by one run. Earlier this season Washington won 12 consecutive games decided by one run. The Nationals are the first team in major-league history to win 10-plus consecutive one-run games and lose 10-plus consecutive one-run games within one season.

• Atlanta used four pitchers in the ninth inning to preserve its 2-1 win against Pittsburgh. It was the first time in Bobby Cox's 20 seasons as Braves' manager that he used four pitchers in the ninth inning.

Macay McBride earned the save after entering the game with the bases loaded in the ninth inning and the Braves leading 2-1. Only one other active major-league pitcher recorded his first career save after inheriting a bases loaded situation in a one-run game: Mike Remlinger, for the Reds, on May 6, 1997.
