• Jeremy Bonderman, now in his third major-league season but not yet 23-years old, bested 41-year-old Randy Johnson in the Tigers' 10-2 win Friday over the Yankees. At the age of 22 years, 246 days, Bonderman became the youngest pitcher to throw a complete game against the Yankees in more than 15 years -- since current Yankees reliever Tom Gordon, then with the Royals, throttled the Bombers, 9-4, on May 26, 1990. (Gordon was then 22 years, 189 days old.)

• Johnson struck out only two batters in five innings in Detroit, while he allowed home runs to Chris Shelton and Magglio Ordonez. It marked the third time this season that Johnson has pitched a game in which his total of home runs allowed was greater than or equal to his total of strikeouts.

Prior to this season, Johnson had not had that combination in any game since August 2000 (while with Arizona), and he had had only three such games over his last 13 seasons (1992 through 2004).
