• Mexico's first eight hits all went for extra bases (six doubles, two home runs) in the World Baseball Classic against Canada on Thursday. Over the past five major-league seasons, a team has had its first eight hits go for at least a double only once. The Cardinals did it at Coors Field (where else?) on Sept. 18, 2002.
