A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

NBA

• In Sacramento's 118-109 overtime win against the Lakers, Kobe Bryant scored 51 points, Mike Bibby scored 40 points and Kenny Thomas had a triple-double. It's only the second game in NBA history in which one player scored 50-plus points, a second player scored 40-plus points and a third player recorded a triple-double. On Dec. 8, 1961, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Philadelphia Warriors 151-147 in triple overtime. Wilt Chamberlain scored 78 points for Philadelphia, Elgin Baylor scored 63 points for Los Angeles and Jerry West had a triple-double for the Lakers.

• Bryant scored 21 points in the first quarter, the second-highest opening-period total for any NBA player this season. Atlanta's Al Harrington scored 22 in the first quarter on Nov. 15 at San Antonio.
