Honestly, my immediate reaction to the news Vince Young will be elevated to start at quarterback for the Tennessee Titans was to shrug my shoulders and act like it couldn't have meant less for fantasy football. Young was awful for much of 2007, failing to capitalize on what was a valuable rookie season. Most fantasy owners remember only the bad, and the real reason he's getting this opportunity is because Kerry Collins has been, along with JaMarcus Russell, Derek Anderson and Jake Delhomme, arguably the worst quarterback in the league. The Titans might as well see what this once-promising player can do in a lost season.
The fact is there remains upside to Young's game, and the Titans were going nowhere with Collins leading the way. The last game against the New England Patriots was mostly an aberration -- aren't all 59-0 blowouts? -- but I don't see how any Titans players can or will be hurt statistically by this move. I don't think they are helped much, either, but I do see a few rays of sunshine. While we might like to simply dismiss Young's fantasy relevance, I ask you this: He's got one good season in his career, and one bad. Why should we simply assume he'll be bad from this point forward?
